Lesson 2: The Main Ingredient To Business Success On Line or Off Line

In Lesson 1 we discussed the importance of selling people what they want to buy and who are capable of buying, meaning they have money.

Near Christmas of 2005, it was difficult to get near the cash register in an Apple store. I waited in line because I was actually doing some market research on what people were buying there. It was exciting to see many people not just buying and iPod but more than one and a lot of them buying the most expensive video featured model. Obviously Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple had no trouble figuring out what people want to buy and selling it to them.

This week the Wall Street Journal ran a story on Volkswagen investing 18 months time and a ton of money to research what is important to US drivers. The goal is not to publish a report but to build vehicles people want to buy.

Remember Steve’s First Law of Making Money On Line from Lesson 1: Copy The Successes and Ignore The Failures. Now you understand that you need to look off line and on line for the success. If major corporations are doing extensive research to find out what people want to buy, take that as a valuable lesson.

This does not mean you need to spend years of time doing research. Fortunately, there are a number of sources for you to quickly turn to for help with your research and best of all they are FREE.

Steve’s Second Law Of Making Money On Line: Find A Hungry Market With Money and Sell Them What They Want To Buy!

I recently attended a seminar with a select few of very successful internet marketers. Also among the group were a few novices. One of the newest and least experienced attendees asked one of the most experienced and successful internet marketers: “what should I be selling on line?”  The first sentence from the expert was something along the line of …”What are you passionate about? ….make a business out of what you love to do.”

Well I have to tell you that advice is excellent as long as your passion is about something a lot of people want to buy and the product can be sold at a price that allows you to make a nice profit with each one you sell.

Personally I am passionate about business and marketing products and services using on line and off line tools. In general, I could care less what the product or service is as long as it is legal. What I most care about is do people want to buy what is being sold and can you make money with it.  Key point: it is not just about what people want to buy, you must be able to make a nice profit from it.

So how do you find out what people want to buy?  Now I am limiting this discussion to what people want to buy using the Internet because this is a course on how you can make money on line in 90 days or less.

Your First Assignment: You need to do some research on what people are already buying.  Here is how to start:

Go to www.clickbank.com See what the best sellers are in each of their main categories. This will tell you what ebooks people are buying.

Much of the material coming into our email accounts is promotion for reports, books, tapes and seminars…information products. Information will always be a hot category and now you know how to research this category. Physical products, however, account for the most money being spent. So what are people buying. Go to www.yahoo.com and click on shopping and start. Type top sellers or hot products. Look at the categories and start to get an idea what people are buying.

Ebay and Amazon are other great resources for what people are buying.

There are more places to go to do research. Use the ones here to get started. Actually those are plenty.
