After the last lesson, I became concerned that you will feel there is too much to learn in order to be successful making money on line. I want to remind you that in Lesson 3 you learned how you can quickly become an affiliate and market other people's products. I repeat my encouragement to you to reak Roseland Gardners book. Let's stay with the affiliate marketing example for minute and for discussion purposes assume you have found a hot topic and product to market. You register as an affilitate are you are given an affiliate link (like the one I have for Roseland's book). OK so now what? Well as you can imagine, nobody is going to buy from you if they don't visit your site. So you need traffic to your site.
Some people advise buying leads and let's say you do that. Some people reading this Lesson are from leads that I purchased. But visitors and names on a mailing list do not make you a dime. People buying your product make you money. So if you are selling a product for golfers and people interested in snowboarding or a business opportunity are coming to your site don't expect many sales.
The Magic Formula for On-Line Profits: Profits are a result of relevant traffic coming to your site and buying your product. When they visit your site and buy, you have converted them from a visitor to a buyer. So you will hear again about the conversion rate. How many visitors do you need before you have a sale? That is the conversion rate. The more qualified you visitor the better the chance for a sale.
So how do you get qualified leads to your site? This is another question that is being addressed all the time by "gurus" selling ebooks, physical manuals, teleseminars and seminars. My recommendation is to have a "name squeeze page" that qualifies your visitor. SuccessUniversity is a very good example of a name squeeze page. A visitor knows exactly what the topic is and then can choose to give you their contact information in exchange for more information. Once you have a name squeeze page you can look for articles and reports that you can promote in ezines and article directories. You can also test conversion of your squeeze page by writing pay per click ads that you run in Google and Yahoo. Another good example of a squeeze page is The Profit Expert.
In a mini-course like this one it is not practical to cover in detail all the "how to's " but if you follow this roadmap in developing your skills you will not be as likely to have your attention diverted by all the so called opportunities that are presented to you. The keys to success are falling in love with what the markets want and learning the skills to be successful selling it to them.
It is also important to spend your business time on what you enjoy and what interests you. However, if your interests are only in a very narrow market, I recommend expanding your interests.
Personally I have a business background and have worked a lot in retailing and manufacturing. In the past few years I have helped companies in long-haul trucking. That was an industry where I had very little experience. But once I started working with them it was fun. What I have learned is that when I enjoy working with a business owner, the exact product or industry they are in is secondary. Sound business principles are universal. The fundamental principles for doing business using the Internet are pervasive.
